About the Carers Centre
Sheffield Carers Centre is an independent charity and company, working to identify carers in Sheffield and to offer them a range of information, advice and support services. The Centre is part of a network of similar centres across the country, co-ordinated by the Princess Royal Trust for Carers. The Centre was founded in 1993 and moved into its current premises in Bells Court in 2003.
The work of the Centre is overseen by a Management Committee, whose members are either carers or former carers themselves, or bring professional expertise which is invaluable to the centre's work. Currently, we have Committee members whose backgrounds are in other voluntary sector organisations, private industry and the University.
Sheffield Carers Centre has a staff of seven (a mix of full and part-time), and a team of about 25 trained volunteers. If you are interested in finding out more about volunteering at the Centre, please contact us. We offer many services and activities, all of which are free, confidential and open to all carers in Sheffield; these are listed in the services and activities page of this website. Dates of the groups and activities are listed in the diary section and in our bi-monthly Newsletter. We also publish a range of information which is avilable from the publications pages, or you can ask us to send you paper copies.
We are funded mainly by NHS Sheffield and Sheffield City Council and work closely with these partners in many aspects of our work. However, as a charity we are always very pleased to receive donations to help us in our work - please see our donate page for details. We also work closely with many other organisations across the city who provide services for carers or the people they care for, or have contact with carers in other ways.
The Carers Centre office is generally staffed from 9am to 5pm each weekday. We can offer appointments for face-to-face information and support from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday, but regret we are not usually able to see people without an appointment.
The helpline is available 10am - 12.30 each weekday on Sheffield 272 8362.
We hope you will find this site interesting and useful. If you would like to make any suggestions about the site, or you need any more information about anything to do with carers, please contact us.
