  1. About Us
  2. Volunteer with us

Volunteer with us

We would not be able to help Sheffield’s unpaid carers in the way we do, without the fantastic support from volunteers.

Who can volunteer?
Almost anyone can be a volunteer. You don’t need to have any prior experience as a carer, or in a similar volunteer role, as we'll give you all the training you need. If you are friendly, empathetic, and passionate about help those who care for others – we would love to hear from you.

Why volunteer?
The benefits of volunteering can be enormous. In addition to helping people in need, volunteering can help you as an individual. You can meet new friends and connect with some local communities - or build on existing skills and learn new ones. It’s also a great opportunity to update and broaden your CV while supporting the work we do for our city’s unpaid carers.

How much time do I need to give?
It all depends on the volunteer role - some people give a few hours a week whilst others give more.

How it works?
If you're interested in volunteering with us, we'd love to hear from you! To apply for any of the roles below, click on the blue button at the end of the page then complete the form. Our Volunteer Coordinator will give you a call to introduce themselves and talk you through the next step.

Please note that because we work with some vulnerable people, you should allow time for Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks and an induction programme before the volunteering starts.

We are now looking for volunteers in the following 4 roles:

1: Community Connect Telephone Support Volunteer (2-3 hours weekly or fortnightly)
Are you a good communicator? Would you like to reduce social isolation and loneliness amongst unpaid carers by supporting them with some friendly phone calls and helping them re-engage with local communities? Join our telephone support team to help carers gain a better understanding of the systems and city-wide services available to them. Click here for details >>>

We're also looking for volunteers to meet and greet carers at the following monthly events. These friendly group meetings offer the chance to try a craft session or some light-hearted games - and there is always time for some cake and a cuppa!

2: Carers Café Activity (Morning on 2nd Friday of the month)
Help to meet, greet and serve refreshments to carers at one of our most popular monthly carers events. Volunteers with a creative streak can also give a helping hand to carers with some craft activities. Click here for details >>>

3: Sports & Games & Social Activity (Afternoon on 4th Wednesday of the month)
Do you fancy playing table tennis, badminton or joining others for card or board games - or perhaps a session of chair-aerobics? You don’t need to be 'sporty' to join in the fun and give carers a break from their caring roles. Click here for details >>>

4: Allotment & Crafts Activity (Morning on 2nd Thursday of the Month)
You don't have to be interested in gardening to be part of this group. Carers enjoy some refreshments, with the option to join in creative craft sessions, all in a peaceful environment with spectacular views from the allotment across the city. Click here for details >>>
